My story, my why

From running a beach bar on a remote island in Brazil, to transforming my flat in Rome into a living home gallery dedicated to photography. The spaces I design reflect this passion for change, my love for travel, and a belief that simplicity allows you to breathe, celebrating the beauty of imperfection as well as the small details of everyday life.

It’s me, Marta. And this is my story.

I relocated to the UK from my home city, Rome in 2017.

I was 7 months pregnant and did not know a soul. Oh, and I was living in Reading at the time.

Having and raising my child kept me busy for 5 years and has challenged me a lot. Seeing Maja growing into a happy, imaginative and independent child has been my joy. A testimony of the infinite love, dedication and hard work that being a mum involves.

One day, I saw her walking confidently into her new life, the first full day at reception. She was just about to turn five. She hugged me and she went off. She didn't look back. I felt Maja was stepping into what was the start of her own independent life. Watching her, I knew it was time to regain mine. It’s a moment I will never forget.

I will not lie, it was overwhelming, like a huge wave. And I decided to ride it.

My bond to interior design has always been strong.

A natural talent, a long life passion, years of experience back in Italy, a city, Bristol, where I felt it was possible. We moved 5 times in 5 years and I found myself stubbornly striving to turn ordinary rented flats into beautiful spaces, whilst keeping them child and family-friendly, doing wonders on a minimal budget.

We started a large renovation in our house.

A complete remodel of the downstairs floor, during lockdown and with two children - at that time, our niece Emma was living with us, but that’s another story.

Back in Italy, our friends were asking about our progress, so I decided to start a blog to share our daily challenges with them. I started documenting every detail. How I was striving to keep life “life” with all the disruption that was going on into our lives. Small details. Fresh flowers from our walks in the woods, garden picnics, little corners of inconspicuous beauty where I could rest my eyes and my soul and forget about all the mess. Somehow, I sensed this wasn’t just construction works for a more functional space. It was the start of something.

I just HAVE to have beauty around me.

I found myself a part-time job as a design consultant in a high-end furniture showroom here in Bristol. It was my first paid job here in the UK. Clients came to buy a sofa and we often ended up drawing sketches of their rooms.

Finally, in 2021, I decided to start something which is my own, here in the place I live.

That’s where MARTA ROSSATO INTERIORS begins.
